          IMPORTANT NOTICES!!!!

          FALL PRODUCT SALE:  Did you hear that  Girl Scouts of Western Ohio will now be selling candy and nuts in the fall instead of calendars?  Troops will earn 60 cents for every item sold.  Among the 12 items we will be offering our friends and families are cashews, chocolate almonds, mint trefoils, fruit slices and chocolate-covered raisins.  Our supplier is Trophy Nut Company in Tipp City, OH .  The sale will run from October 30- November 11, 2008.  Products will be delivered by November 21 with money due by December 8,  2008.  Girl Scouts in all grade levels, including Daisys, can participate.  More info to come.

           TRAINING:  There are now only two  required trainings for leaders:  Girl Scout FUNdamentals (formerly known as Orientation To The Organization) and Age-Level.   It is easier than ever to complete required leader training. The traditional three hour classes are still available as well as an on-line self directed course and home study packet.  Click here for training information.

          The following positions are still open in the service unit:  Service Unit Manager (can be a two person job); Program Consultant at Cadette/Senior level;  Registrar (can be a two person job); Troop Organizers at Maple Dale, Blue Ash, Montgomery, All Saints, Sycamore High School, Indian Hill schools, All Saints, Saint Vincent Ferrer,  and  Yavneh.

         COOKIES!!!!!!   Here are our totals from the 2007-2008 Cookie Sale.  We reached our goal this year!  Total Troops Selling  49 with 550 girls selling.  Number of boxes  57, 024 (first order)  6,084 (cupboard) for a total of 63, 108.

Top ten troops and number of boxes sold:  961 (3108), 2161 (2652), 8246 (2496), 80 (2280), 7986 (1812) 8746 (1812 )-- a tie--7984 (1800), 9341 (1800)--a tie--9340 (1752), 339 (1716), 1038 (1716) a tie

       CONGRATS TO OUR GRADUATING SENIOR SENIORS:  Troop 46421 (Karen Hersman and Lydia McMillen), Josephine O (Juliette), Troop 40327 (Karen Mazzei).   Best of luck from Sycamore Service Unit!

           GOLD AWARD UPDATE:  Congrats to all our Sycamore Service Unit Gold Award recipients!  Among those honored May 4 at the annual council Gold Award Court of Honor were girls from Troop 40327 (Karen Mazzei) For their project, the girls put together a peace garden in Blue Ash Nature Park.  They made a walkway from Brownie painted pavers and refinished a bench.  They also cleared brush and ivy from the site then mulched, planted and held a dedication ceremony. Also honored was Josephine O (Juliette).  Jo-Jo adapted three stories from different parts of Asia for puppet shows. These shows, along with craft activities, were presented to homeless children.  Brittany B. organized a skating activity where she collected items for Ronald McDonald House, cooked meals during the summer at RMCD house and also encouraged Sycamore SU troops to cook at meal there through out the year.

            GOLD AWARD:  Troop 43947 (Cherie P., leader) is asking for help with their Gold Award Project.  They will be working with St. Aloysius Orphanage in 2008 on various projects.  Click here to read all about it.

           GOLD AWARD:  COOKING FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE:  As part of her Gold Award Project, Brittany B. would like to encourage Sycamore Service Unit troops to volunteer to cook a meal at Ronald McDonald House.  Read all about it here.

SERVICE UNIT MEETINGS:  2008-2009 meeting times, locations and dates will be announced in August. Service Unit meeting notes will be posted on the site. 

TRAINING:  If you are not sure what trainings you need to complete please contact Training Consultant Colleen Phillips.  Leaders who do not complete training within six months of being appointed should not be meeting alone with girls and will not be able to register troop for 2008/2009 year.

 To be covered by Girl Scout insurance all leaders, adult volunteers and girls must be registered.
